Personal Protection Workshop
for College Students

When you go away to college, you face many new challenges - including new dangers. Every year on US campuses, there are assaults, sex offenses, burglaries, and even murder. Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to reduce the risks you face. Learn how to avoid trouble - avoidance is the ultimate form of personal protection. If trouble happens despite your efforts, you’ll want to know how to minimize your risk and escape quickly. If all else fails, you may be forced to fight back; and you’ll want to know how best to handle a larger and stronger attacker.

Billy and Nancy Greer, owners of the Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi, will help you develop your personal protection plan by discussing safe practices, by demonstrating and teaching simple but effective techniques for escaping an aggressor, and by showing you how to fight back. The emphasis is on learning simple principles that are easy to remember and apply, rather than focusing on more complex techniques that require lots of practice to master.

While this workshop is geared towards students currently in college or headed to college, it is open to other teens and adults. It is also a co-ed class.

Please wear loose comfortable clothing. You will work with partners and may need to remove watches or jewelry on your wrists. Friends and family members often attend together and can be partners.

Some teenagers who are signed up by their parent, begin the workshop with a less-than-enthusiastic attitude. By the end of the workshop, though, they are engaged in the hands-on, self-defense techniques and are eager to learn.

These techniques work!

Mom Testimonial:

"My teenage daughter attended one of your self-defense workshops, and I believe it helped prevent her abduction. Two men tried to drag her into a truck, and she was able to escape using your techniques."

Student Testimonial:

One of our kung fu students, a teen who weighs about 90 pounds, fended off an attacker while she was away at college. She had been sick and cooped up for several days and was finally feeling better. She decided to get some fresh air and went out for a walk on a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

She was walking near her college campus, when a man, the only other person on the path at the moment, walked up behind her. He started making suggestive comments so she ignored him and continued to walk rapidly towards her destination. When he grabbed her, her "muscle memory" kicked in,
and she was able to defend herself using a kung fu technique and get away.

After telling us what happened she said,
"I just want to thank you for teaching me kung fu."

WE are thankful that these young women were able benefit from our workshop and classes. We are parents of two young adults ourselves, and they both have studied kung fu. We feel better knowing that our children have a personal protection plan and want the same for others.
